Mississippi Tunes

The Deep South of the United States is rich in music, both Anglo and Black.  One source for fiddle tunes recorded in 1939 by Herbert Halpert are available to hear in the Library of Congress.  Many of them appeared in a compilation called Great Big Yam Potatoes, Anglo-American Fiddle Music from Mississippi.  You can hear some of my clawhammer banjo arrangements in this jukebox.  Favorite fiddlers so far include John Hatcher, John Alexander Brown (whose well-known image you see here), Earnest Hatcher and Stephen Tucker.
